A BRADFORD school has implemented the district's first full closure due to coronavirus since education settings began reopening after the summer holidays.

One In A Million Free School, which is situated next door to Bradford City's Valley Parade, shut to all students today.

The secondary school, which had 343 pupils on the roll during its last Ofsted inspection in 2018, outlined it would not reopen until 7.45am on Tuesday, September 22, after a positive case of the COVID-19 virus emerged in the Year 7 bubble.

The building underwent a deep clean on Friday and this will continue throughout Monday.

An email sent to parents and guardians on Thursday said: "School will be closed to all students on Friday 18th and Monday 21st September to enable a deep clean to take place as a precautionary measure following one positive COVID-19 result within the Year 7 bubble.

"School will reopen to all students in all year groups at 7.45am on Tuesday 22nd September 2020."

Many schools in Bradford that have experienced cases of coronavirus at their settings have closed down single bubbles, or asked those who came into close contact with the individual to self-isolate.

One In A Million is the first school in the area to fully shut due to the virus, since settings began to reopen after the summer holidays.

A pupil at the school, who did not wish to be named, explained that other year groups have to go through the Year 10 bubble to get to their own bubbles.

They added: "I don't think schools should be open.

"You can't be in a group of six but you can be in a school full of hundreds, maybe thousand of people."

One In A Million was approached for comment, but has not yet responded.

It comes after Chellow Heights took the decision to close its main site on Thursday.

The special school, which provides education for learners between the ages of two and 11, confirmed it closed its West Campus, in Thorn Lane.

This was due to the number of coronavirus cases and people with symptoms at the school.

Chellow Heights has yet to announce when the school will reopen though.
