A HIGH school’s roof has been vandalised multiple times during the summer holiday break causing damage of tens of thousands of pounds.

The Manningtree High School, in Colchester Road, has been targeted at least on four occasions between July 13 and Monday, August 3.

Carol Sinclair, director of operations at the school, said CCTV footage was checked and it shows intruders had accessed many roof areas by jumping between them.

She added the yobs had been climbing onto the roof causing damage, breaking roof tiles, cutting internet cables and painting obscene graffiti on several rooftops.

She said: “It is important to us that our students have the best facilities we can afford for them.

“We have been excited about welcoming them back in September into our brand new labs and classrooms and we have been redecorating and updating existing rooms.

“Sadly, the mindless antisocial behaviour of a few trespassers has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to roofs and fittings.

“This means the money which should be spent on resources for our students will now need to be spent on emergency repairs and enhanced security instead.

“We are working closely with the police to try to confirm the identity of the culprits.”

On a statement posted on the High School’s Facebook page she said they are devastated and would hate to think this is happening elsewhere in the community.

She added: “It’s so upsetting to come into school to find such devastating damage, when we are trying hard to get ready for the much anticipated and welcome return of our students.”

Essex Police are investigating the incidents.
