WINCHESTER Rotary's president has delivered one final cheque before the end of his year-long term.

Mike Billington handed the £1,793 to Ben Hogbin, manager of Winchester and District Young Carers.

He said: "Many young carers remain in self-isolation and do a difficult job in the best of circumstances, but face a challenging summer.

"This money will be used to provide them with Activity Packs, which include arts and crafts, sweets and treats, sports equipment and items for self-care."

In total the club has raised £4,617.47 for the charity during Mike’s year.

This allowed Rotarians to take a group on a day out to Harry Potter World in February.

The money was raised through the sale of Diana Brooks’ children’s book Smokey the Cat, profit from the annual Pancake Race organised in partnership with Winchester Cathedral, a donation from the Winchester Rotary Youth Fund and the generous donation of ticket money from the Searchlight Concert scheduled to take place at Winchester University in March.
