A FLINT man has been nominated to win a coveted national business award.

Steve West, from The Pudding Compartment, is in the running to get the 2020 National Business Hero title at the National SME Business Awards which will take place at the iconic Wembley Stadium later this year.

A Million Thanks is a newly formed social enterprise set up by Steve and is delivering baking ingredients to home bakers across the UK who are currently finding flour, sugar and yeast difficult to obtain.

Steve said: “As a not-for-profit business we have used the money raised to provide frontline workers with boxes containing individually wrapped treats that can be easily shared by busy people.

“Customers can nominate a person or team they think deserves special thanks. The aim is to deliver a million thanks in the form of sweet treats during the course of the current COVID-19 crisis.”

Shortly after receiving their A Million Thanks Treats Box, Critical Care Practitioner John Adams and the Wales Air Ambulance crew based at Caernarfon were scrambled to treat a casualty in Flintshire.

Coincidentally, A Million Thanks’ founder and chief executive of The Pudding Compartment Steve West witnessed the air ambulance’s impressive departure from the incident, little knowing that the box of sweet treats that his volunteer helpers had sent out was on board the helicopter.

“This exciting category is open to a business or businessperson who have gone above and beyond in the face of adversity.” said Damian Cummins, the SME National Business Awards Director.

He continued: “Our judges will be looking to see what they have done to support a local or national cause and the winner will be a true national hero. It is a very competitive field and therefore we are encouraging local people, local businesses and local organisations to get online and vote for Steve West.

“With 70 per cent of the vote being decided by the public the more support any candidate receives from friends, family and business contacts the more chance they have of winning.”

People can vote for their chosen candidate online at www.smenationalbusinessawards.co.uk/public-vote and the closing date to submit your vote is Thursday, June 18.
