A DARING duo have shaved their heads and raised more than £2,000 for much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for the NHS.

Jade Howe, 29, who is originally from Dovercourt, and friend Charlotte Johnson broadcasted their head shave live on social media on Sunday.

Together they raised £2,030 for the NHS, which will be donated to Colchester Hospital.

Jade, who lives in New Zealand with her partner Daniel Murphy, and son, Koa, who is two, said: “In this Covid-19 pandemic, NHS workers are putting themselves at risk every minute of every day for the welfare of this country, this world.

“I’ve started this fundraising so more protective gear can be purchased for these workers.

“It was a way to help and you also just need to delve deeper and think about what matters. Covid-19 just says ‘Nothing else matters just health and love, health and support’.”

She said that also means neither vanity nor materialism matters as the virus is non-discriminating.

Jade added her partner, Daniel, shaved her head for her while she chopped some of her locks off with scissors.

“It was a crazy experience and it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it,” she said.

After Jade made a call to her friends to join in the head shave, Charlotte gave in to the challenge and decided to shave her hair for the first time.

Charlotte, 28, said she wanted to shave her head for a long time but always talked herself out of it.

She added: “We reached the £2,000 target not long after the head shave. It is incredible, such an amazing feeling.

“Thank you to everybody who donated and for all your fantastically kind comments and support along the way- it melted my heart.”
