AN OSWESTRY pharmacist has admitted he was emotional after he was left a letter and some snacks by a young boy to thank him for his efforts during the coronavirus outbreak.

Alain Weir, who works at Cambrian Pharmacy in Thomas Savin Road, was locking up the pharmacy last Sunday, when he found he had been left a letter, some Pringles and some Matchmakers chocolates outside.

The package was left by a boy named Ethan, aged 10, who told Alain in the letter that he is 'doing an amazing job'.

Alain lives in Liverpool and has to take a daily two-hour round-trip for work, and said the act of kindness 'made his day'.

“It was actually late on a Sunday afternoon when the package was left by Ethan, and he’d also left one with the ambulance crew next door,” he said.

“He left me a package and a nice note with it as well – it was really nice and very heart-warming.

“He was a really nice kid. The fact somebody so young was making such an effort to thank people is really wonderful.

“We’re under a lot of pressure at the minute, but something like that really does put a smile on your face.”

Alain has been a pharmacist for 18 years, and admitted the current situation is making work more strenuous for those working in healthcare.

The pharmacy said it is thankful for the support it receives from the people in the town.

A spokesman said: “Cambrian Pharmacy would like to thank all of its patients for their continued support and understanding through this extraordinary time.

“All of those attending Cambrian Pharmacy have been helping save the NHS by keeping to the social distancing advice and staying two metres apart when queuing.

“Our delivery service has been ramped up as we have taken on new drivers and our patients have been very understanding when there was the occasional delay.

“The staff within the pharmacy are from the locality and are dedicated to keeping their community safe by maintaining the supply of medicines to their people.

“It is inspiring to see that so many of the community wish to leave gifts of gratitude for the Cambrian Pharmacy staff.

“But as we are required to decrease social contact, it is gift enough to know that the community is safe.

“In order to maintain your pharmacy service Cambrian Pharmacy has had to alter its public opening times but the community should rest assured that the staff at Cambrian Pharmacy are continuing to work long hours to ensure the supply of medicines to all of our patients.

“The community spirit will ensure that Oswestry shall endure. We in Cambrian Pharmacy shall continue to commit ourselves to your health needs in these troubled times and beyond.”
