Staff from South Essex College have donated food, toiletries and essentials to an elderly charity amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Generous contributions of toiletries, soups, cereals, UHT Milk, biscuits, teabags and tinned food have been collected to help Age Concern Southend create care packages for vulnerable members of the community.

Age Concern Southend help to provide support, advice and services to older people in Southend and the surrounding communities.

Vicky Graves, human resources operation manager from South Essex College brought the initiative to the college and has been a befriender of the charity for more than four years.

She said: “Having seen all of the images on social media of empty shelves and low stock, with those most vulnerable unable to get basic supplies, I reached out to Age Concern Southend to see if the college could help.

“I emailed all the staff here at the Southend campus and was overwhelmed with the response. Even in the face of adversity, the staff at South Essex College are still as thoughtful as ever – it makes me very proud to work here.”
