A SPLASH of colour will freshen up a town centre thanks to a new mural.
Dovercourt town centre will receive a boost thanks to a project led by the Harwich Society, which will see a new mural splashed over a wall in Kingsway.
The project will cost around £3,500.
For several years there has been widespread concern about the poor condition of the existing mural.
The Harwich Society appointed Simon Sharman, former set designer at the Mercury Theatre, to design and paint the new mural.
It is based on seafront scenes around Dovercourt Bay.
Colin Farnell, Harwich Society chairman, said: “One of our trustees, Richard Colley, has been liaising with all concerned and we have now reached the point where Co-Op is going to re-render the wall to allow a brand new mural to be painted.
“This is good news for everyone who uses the town centre and we hope there is a good response to assist in covering the cost.”
Harwich Council was the first organisation to put £1,000 into the project and further donations are welcomed.
It is hoped the re-rendering of the wall and painting of the mural will take place during this month and be finalised in April.
