A CHILD abuse charity has welcomed the jail term handed to a prolific paedophile for his 'horrific' collection of indecent images.

The NSPCC was speaking after Christian Derrick was jailed for six years at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

The 42-year-old of Priory Road, Bicester, appeared at the court after admitting a string of counts relating to indecent images of children.

In total he had more than 5,000 images depicting child abuse and torture.

Speaking after the hearing an NSPCC spokesperson said in a statement: “Derrick’s persistent and escalating offending shows the huge potential threat he poses to the most vulnerable in our society.

“Many of the images in his horrifically large collection will be crime scenes showing abused children who will need a vast amount of support to recover from their ordeals.

“Effective rehabilitation is crucial as part of this offender’s sentence.

"And law enforcement and tech companies must work together to cut this vile content off at source.
