BRADFORD is to be hit by snow and ice today after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.

The national weather service declared there are to be further snow showers and icy surfaces in the area, which may lead to travel disruption.

The warning is in place until 12pm today.

It covers the entirety of Bradford and stretches to suburb areas, such as Otley and Rawdon, but not quite as far as the centre or east of Leeds.

Just yesterday there were flurries of snow reported in some parts of Bradford.

The Met Office states that this is what to expect due to the weather warning:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

Temperatures will remain just above freezing until Friday, according to forecasters.

The snow showers and sleet are expected to sweep across the district until the end of the week when snow will be replaced by heavy rain.
