STORM Ciara is expected to hit Essex and the south east this Sunday with severe gales of up to 70 mph.

Highways England has issued an amber weather warning an urging drivers to take extra care.

Winds will increase overnight with 50-60 mph gusts and 60-70 mph over exposed routes and bridges such as the QEII and Sheppey.

Disruption is also expected to other modes of transport in and around the region, such as the ferries, which may result in further disruption such as falling trees, flying debris and the risk of blow-overs.

Outbreaks of rain are also expected which may be heavy at times through the afternoon, with a possibility of hail, very gusty winds and heavy showers moving through the region from the north west. 

Difficult driving conditions are expected into the early evening.

There is a particularly high risk that high-sided vehicles and other vulnerable vehicles such as caravans and motorbikes could be blown over on the following sections of roads.
