A cyclist was rushed to hospital after being trapped during a crash with a bus.

The incident happened at the bus station at the junction with Chichester Road and Heygate Avenue in Southend at about 7.11am this morning.

About seven emergency vehicles rushed to the scene in Southend.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision in Chichester Road, Southend at 7:11am this morning.

“On arrival, crews reported that a bus had collided with a cyclist and the cyclist was trapped under the bus.

“Crews worked to release the man by 7:44am and he was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.”

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called to Southend Travel Centre on Chichester Road at around 7.10am following reports of a collision.

"We sent an ambulance, ambulance officer and a car from Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him to Southend Hospital for further assessment and care."

Chris Berry, Head of Operations for Arriva Herts and Essex, said: “We can confirm an incident involving one of our services today at Southend Bus Station. We are currently working alongside emergency services to assist with their ongoing investigation."
