LOVE will be in the air when Rhyl hosts its first Welsh Valentine’s event.

Dydd Santes Dwynwen – the Welsh equivalent of Valentine’s Day – will be marked in the town on Saturday January 25.

Organised by Rhyl Town Council, Ghostbuskers community choir from Tape Music & Film will provide a backdrop of songs as councillors give out goodies.

Rhyl mayor Cllr Ellie Chard said: “St Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers, so what better day to spread the love in Rhyl than on her special day.

“We’ll be welcoming back Ghostbuskers, one of our favourite live bands, and will have a special gift for the first 100 people to stop by and join us for a song.

“Councillors will be handing out #LoveRhyl pin badges made especially for the day as a memento of the event and to show love for our town.”

St Dwynwen’s Day pays homage to the tragic story of a Welsh saint who fell in love with a man named Maelon she was forbidden to marry.

“We’re looking forward to sharing the love this Dydd Santes Dwynwen and, who knows, perhaps the town council will find itself playing cupid” added Cllr Chard.

The event takes place from 11am on Saturday, January 25.
