SOUTHEND Saxons will be looking to start their 150th year in style when they head to Old Priorians tomorrow.

Saxons, who were formed back in 1870, are fourth in the London One North standings.

And scrum-half Harry Branch is keen for Southend to celebrate the landmark year in style.

“We’re all eager to get the new year started and kick-off our 150th year as a club positively,” said Branch.

“We’re keen to be back out there playing too. It’s been a nice break but I’m looking forward to playing again this weekend.”

Southend were beaten 25-12 by Brentwood in their final outing before Christmas. And Branch is determined to get Saxons’ promotion push back on track.

“It’s been frustrating not to play sooner after the loss against Brentwood,” said Branch.

“The positive is that it’s a new year now and another clean start.”

But Branch will be taking nothing for granted against their third from bottom hosts.

“Old Priorians are struggling at the bottom at the moment but I’m sure they will be very keen to change their current situation which means they will be throwing everything they have at us,” added Branch.
