SUNDAY marked 35 years since 14-year-old girl Lisa Hession died after being strangled near her home.

Lisa was murdered on her way back to her home on Bonnywell Road in Leigh at around 10.30pm on Saturday, December 8, 1984 after she went to a house party.

Her body was found by a dog walker at the back of Rugby Road shortly before midnight.

A murder investigation followed but her killer has never been found.

Lisa's mum Christine Hession died in June 2016 at the age of 69 following a short battle with cancer.

Speaking in 2014 on the eve of the 30th anniversary of Lisa's death, Christine said she still lived "in hope" that her daughter's killer would be found.

After Christine passed away Lisa's childhood friend Andrea Ashcroft Aldred and resident Ryan Daly set up Facebook group Let's get justice for Lisa Jane Hession and her mum Christine, in a bid for people to share information.

Andrea said: "Lisa is always on my mind when it is approaching Christmas.

"I often think about my own family, my daughters and grandkids. It makes me think about Christine and the heartache she went through - the fact that she never saw Lisa become a mother or marry.

"Lisa was cruelly snatched away at the age of 14. She didn't get the chance to grow up and enjoy the rest of her life.

"It is not fair how justice has not been served yet, how the killer has walked free and for 35 years never paid for what he did.

"Someone in this town must know something or have an idea who is responsible."

Ryan said: "I really hope the culprit is caught.

"It's not fair how her murder happened 35 years ago and it's still unsolved and Lisa's family have never had closure.

"I hope by us raising awareness of this case it can help to solve it and encourage Leigh folk to speak up.

"After Lisa's mum Christine passed away I decided to start the campaign in October 2016 along with Andrea to raise awareness and make sure it's not forgotten."

Officers retrieved DNA from the scene of Lisa's murder.

A £50,000 reward remains on offer from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for anyone with information which leads to the arrest and conviction of her killer.

Head of GMP's Cold Case Review Unit Martin Bottomley says the case will only be closed when Lisa's killer is discovered.
