A PRIMARY school welcomed an education minister who spoke to children about English.

Myland Primary School in Colchester was visited by Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for School Standards.

The primary school is one of 34 schools to be given English Hub status by the Department for Education, in recognition of its excellence in the teaching of phonics, reading and early language.

As an English Hub, Myland Primary School supports other schools to develop and improve their own approaches.

The minister toured the school with headteacher Debbie Griggs and English Hub lead Rebecca Jarrett.

He visited every class and was able to see for himself how the English Hub status benefits the children.

Ms Jarrett said: “We were proud to showcase our school to the minister and talk to him about our work as an English Hub.

“As always, our pupils were excellent ambassadors for our school and were excited to share their learning with him.”
