AN angry councillor has slammed a building company as “the worst of the worst” over what he describes as the “disgusting state” of a Colchester development site.

Colchester councillor Martin Goss is embroiled in an ongoing dispute with Galliford Try and Linden Homes after raising several complaints over the condition of the Northfields Estate.

The issues range from the lack of maintenance on the site to overgrown vegetation and weeds surrounding the development.

The building work started ten years ago and finished three years ago. But Mr Goss is also unhappy some of the infrastructure still isn’t complete.

He said some of the estate’s streetlights are not working and parts of the roads are still waiting to be finished.

Mr Goss said he has met with little in the way of an adequate response and the problems remain.

Mr Goss added: “I have so far had the standard comeback which I have had threes time previously. They are the worst of the worst and a shambles and should seriously get out of Colchester and not bother coming back.

“The lack of maintenance has caused one resident to suffer serious health issues due to the extra pollen from the uncut grass. He is now a prisoner in his own house, which it is utterly disgraceful.

“They sell the dream of a new home but then it becomes an unmitigated disaster.”

Linden Homes, however, have said any remaining landscaping is the responsibility of a management company, but added they are continuing to work with local authorities to solve any issues.

A spokesman Linden Homes Eastern said: “We have been continuously working with planning and highways departments to resolve the remaining landscaping and highways issues on the Northfields development.

“We have been progressing with the public open space landscaping redesign with the local authority and once approved by them, we will complete the works to these areas and hand them over for adoption.

“The remaining landscaping across the development has been handed over to the management company Trinity who are responsible for the ongoing upkeep of these areas.

“The adoptable roads on the development have undergone a programme of remedial works in line with the Highways Department inspections, with only a few streetlight connections remaining which have been instructed.”
