A CENTENARIAN says the key to a long life is eating plenty of greens.
The Hawthorns retirement home in Braintree celebrated in style when Phyllis Nurse, one of its residents, turned 100.
The dining room was decorated with her favourite colours; pink and purple.
Family, friends and residents sat down to her favourite meal of roast turkey followed by
strawberry Eton Mess.
Her family came from America and Canada to celebrate.
After having a career as a civil servant and working in the Cabinet Office during the war, Phyllis married husband Eddie in 1967.
She enjoyed playing tennis in her younger years and loved to travel with Eddie.
She embraces independent life at the Hawthorns and is a keen quizzer, joining in with the regular games.
Phyllis says a healthy diet over the past 100 years has been the key to a long life.
