A BASILDON bank has reopened after it was forced to close due to a leak.

Nationwide, Basildon town centre,was forced to close on Friday after a leak at offices above the branch overnight.

But the bank reopened yesterday, but only for “limited hours” and “limited trading”.

Nationwide’s press office and staff at the bank were unable to provide any additional information.

A unit in the upper floor of Southgate House in Basildon Town Square incurred a large water leak on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

This led to the bank closing its usual working services all day on Friday and Saturday as well as over the Bank Holiday weekend.

James Marsden said: “The leak must have caused thousands of pounds’ worth of damage.”

I hope it doesn’t affect the businesses there too much.”

Following last Thursday’s leak at offices above Nationwide, the bank is now open again.

However, services to the public are open for limited hours and “limited trading.”

Julia Marler said: “I walked past this when the ceiling fell down inside Southgate house front entrance. A woman from the bank next door came running out saying their ceiling had come down. It’ll be a big water bill for someone.”
