BIRCHWOOD College celebrated a successful day last week, Thursday, with students collecting both A-level and BTEC results.

The college was pleased to report their A-level pass rate for grades A* to E stood at 99 per cent with BTEC Applied Learning entries at 100 per cent.

Moira Bryan, head teacher of Birchwood Community High School said: "Congratulations to all our students on these amazing results which is a testament to their hard work and commitment.

"We are so proud of them all."

Warrington Wolves player Riley Dean was celebrating at the college, just one week after making his professional rugby league debut.

The 18-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, was thrilled to receive the highest grades possible when he opened his envelope.

He achieved three distinction stars in his level three BTEC sport and business qualifications.

Among the teenagers who earned a place at university was Bethan Swann, who received grades of A in Geography and B in Biology and Chemistry.

She will now be going on to study medicine and surgery at Lancaster University.

One pupil who will be deferring her university spot is Rhianna Bibby.

The budding screenwriter, from Fearnhead, was offered a place on the British Film Institute's (BFI) Clapperboard programme in Liverpool earlier this year which saw her working alongside professional filmmakers.

After a gap year gaining more work experience in the field, Rhianna will take up her place to study screenwriting with film, television and radio at the University of Central Lancashire.

Chris Burrows, head of Birchwood College, said: "We are absolutely delighted that these excellent results reflect the hard work of the young people at Birchwood College.

"With the support of our specialist subject teachers, small class sizes and our personalised learning programmes, students at Birchwood College have again achieved highly.

"We are also pleased that these results cement our position as one of the top performing colleges in the north west for BTEC Applied Learning."
