A TOWN council is to appoint a new officer to oversee the transformation of a heritage site in Mold.

The Leader reported last year how the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) confirmed a cash boost to redevelop Bailey Hill in the town.

Mold Town Council has now confirmed it has shortlisted candidates for the role of Bailey Hill project officer.

The successful applicant will oversee and deliver the Heritage Lottery Fund and Leader funded activity plan at the site.

They will work with the Friends of Bailey Hill and other third sector organisations involved with the park, maximise income for the park, manage the programme of activities and oversee volunteers.

According to the job description, the salary for the position will start at £26,999 per annum.

A report to Mold Town Council - which met on Wednesday - states 17 applications for the job were received.

Regarding the redevelopment works at the site, the report adds: "Draft proposals for the play area have been drawn up by Harrison Design Consultants, with members of the steering group visiting the local schools to gauge feedback on the proposals.

"All new ideas from the young people will be feed back into the steering group for future additional recreational provision at Bailey Hill.

"The appointed contractors have been on site since June 17 carrying out the enabling works before construction commences - and finished last week.

"The work included excavation and trial pits for archaeological work to the outer bailey ramp and the cottage garden, with nothing of archaeological significance being found."

Seven candidates for the Bailey Hill project officer post have been shortlisted and interviews are to be held on the week of July 29.

The successful candidate for the job will be selected that week and is expected to start in the role before Autumn.

The role is funded until November 2021 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Leader funding.
