BORDERS music lovers face a dilemma this week - where to catch the fantastic Somerset Youth Orchestra.

The hugely talented youngsters perform at Wilton Church in Hawick on Tuesday.

And two nights later they will again lift the roof at Melrose Parish Church.

The full symphony orchestra last played in the Borders four years ago.

Promoter Mary Sherwood told us: "The last time that Somerset Youth Orchestra played here was in 2015 when they performed to a full house in Hawick, wowing the large audience with the standard of their playing and the concert raised a substantial sum of money towards Meningitis Research Scotland."

Two charities are set to benefit from the concerts with proceeds from Tuesday's performance going to Stable Life, and the Melrose performance will benefit The Margaret Kerr Unit.

Under the baton of local musician Andy Sherwood, the orchestra will be performing with members of Borders choirs including The Roxburgh Singers and The Abbey Consort.

The programme will also include Dvorak and some Scottish music including Highland Cathedral for bagpipes and orchestra, with pipers Michael Scott and Gus Redburn.

Andy is appealing to the public to come and support the concerts.

He said: "This is a rare chance to hear this young orchestra who will be travelling a long way to perform here and to support the two local charities they are playing for."
