A MAN has been arrested after two puppies died in a fire at a block of flats.

A 37-year-old from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire in Ganymede Court, Bewbus.

Six fire engines were called to the scene in Crawley in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

West Sussex Fire and Rescue brought the fire under control at 4.10am.

The Argus:

One woman was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. 

Two flats were badly damaged in the blaze.

And the service confirmed that two puppies had died in the fire.

At the time, Crawley council set up a refuge area in the Civic Centre next to Crawley Town Hall for those affected.

 

Detective Inspector Pauline Lane said: "We have arrested a man in connection with the fire but we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the fire being started or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area."

The man has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
