A SHOPLIFTER who stole a bronze statue from a Winchester art gallery has been ordered to pay compensation.
Carl Philip Coles, 45, of Hyde Gate, Hyde, admitted stealing the sculpture of a mother and baby elephant, valued at £1,450, from Whitewall Galleries on Market Street on October 23.
Magistrates in Basingstoke imposed a community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 20 days as well as paying £150 compensation.
