A PIZZA delivery driver was threatened and robbed by a gang of thugs who made off with his pizza boxes.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a takeaway delivery driver in Dovercourt.

The delivery driver was dropping off pizza at Newport Close just before 8.20pm on Sunday, June 23.

The 27-year-old driver was approached by a group of men as he returned to his car.

But as he was attempting to drive away, one of the men threatened him with a knife.

It was reported they then grabbed pizza boxes from his car and ran off.

Luckily, the victim was not injured during the ordeal.

Officers carried out a search of the area and arrested four teenage boys and a man on suspicion of robbery and possession of drugs.

They are a 15-year old from Leytonstone, a 16-year-old from Romford, an 18-year-old from Sudbury,a 17-year-old from Tooting and a 23-year-old from Wandsworth.

They have been released on bail until July 19 while police continue their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Gary Biddle said: "This was a frightening experience for the victim and it’s fortunate he wasn’t hurt.

"We quickly made arrests thanks to team work involving our response teams and CID officers and our investigation remains ongoing.
