An elderly woman has been left with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a skip lorry outside a fast food restaurant.

The woman, who is in her 80s, was hit by a white and green skip lorry outside the Tesco Express and KFC in Broomfield Road at around 2.20pm today.

She has been flown to hospital with potentially life-threatening leg injuries.

Police need to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has CCTV or dash cam footage of it.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "In particular we need to trace the driver of a grey vehicle which turned out left out of Pentland Avenue towards KFC in the moments immediately before the collision.

"The driver of the lorry has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and he is currently in custody.
