A SPECIAL walk identifying more than 60 types of tree in Castle Park has been created.

Christopher Howard, a member of the Friends of Castle Park and a tree expert, created a tree trail for visitors.

There are 69 different species in Castle Park.

The trail begins close to the park’s Museum Street entrance, with the castle’s famous Sycamore.

Other trees along the route include the Monkey Puzzle, Foxglove Tree, and Tree of Heaven, ending with the Saucer Magnolia near the Visitor Information Centre.

The Friends of Castle Park work with Colchester Council to ensure the park is well kept.

Cindy Salmon, chair of the Friends of Castle Park, said: “The park has a lot of species of tree and Christopher created a walk to inform people about where the trees come from, and their character. “

“He produced descriptions of the trees and we have printed a booklet.”

The trees are labelled with numbers so visitors can easily follow the route.
