TENS of thousands of visitors and bikers flocked to Southend seafront for the return of the popular Shakedown.

Organisers and councillors agreed it was a great day for everyone.
He said: “It was tiring but as successful as we had expected.
“The road closure went down really well and meant people could be relaxed and walk about.
“All went off without a hitch, feedback has been amazing.
“We’ve managed to eliminate some of the previous issues.”
James Courtenay, councillor for growth said the popular event gives a different experience.
He said: “The road closure was necessary.
“It’s a big boost to our tourism as well.”
However trader Paul Thompson criticised the council’s handling of the day.
He said: “My business was quieter and it’s due to the road closure.
“It’s been dangerous too with walkers and bikers.”
The event, originally organised by Ace Cafe, was a popular fixture until 2016, when the cafe said it could no longer meet police and council demands.
An unofficial event ran last year and police were forced to act after reports of antisocial behaviour.
