THE family of a pensioner whose mobility scooter broke have thanked two Essex Police officers who helped get him home safely.

Sgt Wells and PC Coppin were on duty in Colchester when they were called to a concern for the welfare of an 80-year-old.

A member of the public had called the police after finding the man in distress as his mobility scooter batteries had died and his oxygen tank was running low.

The resident waited with the man until officers arrived and the scene.

After making sure he did not need to go to hospital, Sgt Wells and PC Coppin took him home where his son was waiting.

The gentleman's son has since contacted Essex Police to thank them for their quick work in getting him home safely.

Sgt Wells said: "We joined to help vulnerable people and being able to help this man and ensure he got home safely was really rewarding.”
