CHELMSFORD RESIDENTS have been rated as the most intense egg eaters in Britain.

Research by accommodation software provider eviivo, revealed that the most intense egg eaters in Britain are from Chelmsford, with 25 per cent saying they eat more than 20 eggs each month.

Ahead of National B&B Week, eviivo also asked the British public to explain how they like their eggs in the morning, settling the age-old debate. Chelmsford residents revealed that 44 per cent of people rated eggs as their favourite food, choosing their favourite style of egg as soft scrambled (47 per cent).

This was followed by hard boiled (38 per cent), soft boiled (26 per cent), omelette (24 per cent), and poached soft (21 per cent).

Out of the British population, over half (52 per cent) revealed they feel that their breakfast is incomplete without any eggs, and it was found that so many eat eggs (59 per cent) because they believe they're healthy. More than a quarter (26 per cent) even said they would eat eggs for every meal of the day if they could.

Despite this, it was found that 20 per cent of Brits don't know how to cook an egg.

Ed Goldswain, Marketing Director at eviivo, said: “The nation loves a good breakfast and clearly a healthy helping of eggs too, so we were surprised to see that so many people don’t actually know how to cook them!

“Luckily for them, there are lots of great places all over the country where eggs are firmly on the menu, including at many of the UK’s B&Bs, which pride themselves on being able to whip up a delicious homecooked breakfast, with eggs to order.

“National B&B Week is all about celebrating everything that B&Bs have to offer, so if you’re on the hunt for a great breakfast, now’s the time – and you’ll no doubt find a comfy bed too.”

National B&B Week runs from 18th-24th March 2019, aiming to show Brits that a staycation can be just as good as a holiday abroad and will feature a range of activities taking place at B&B's across the country.
