THUNDERBIRDS were go at an impressive exhibition.

The event, which showcased puppets from the original cult TV series, was held on Mersea Island to raise money for the RNLI.

Mary Turner, creator and puppeteer behind the iconic Lady Penelope puppet, brought the original doll to the exhibition, which was held at the MICA centre.

Famous islanders Shane Rimmer and Matt Zimmerman, the voices of brothers Scott and Alan Tracy, returned home having lived on Mersea in the 1960s.

Alongside this chance to meet the trio, fans had access to 15 of the original puppets, vehicles and more.

Event organiser Graham Farley said it was a successful day.

He said: “We had about 300 people attending, the event was packed.

“The actors had a lovely time and it was a really friendly atmosphere.

“People came from all over the country to attend the event.

“The voice actors joined me on stage and we talked about their careers and lives, and we had a huge range of puppets.

“Members of the public were fascinated.”

The series was created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and won a following of millions of young viewers.

Money raised at the event will be ringfenced especially for the West Mersea community and will pay for water safety lessons for children.
