POLICE are appealing for information after a man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury following a reported assault in Chelmsford.

A 27-year-old man was involved in argument with a group of people within the smoking area of Popworld, in Springfield Road, and was asked to leave by security at around 11pm on Friday, March 8.

Police believe the man was then involved in another argument with the same group of people shortly afterwards and he has since reported that he was punched to the head.

The man got into a taxi in Baddow Road and was taken home but became poorly a few hours later.

He was taken to hospital, where he currently remains for treatment.

Investigating officer DC Clare Wreford, of Chelmsford CID, said: “We believe the man was involved in two altercations with the same group, in the smoking area of Popworld and another as he walked away from the venue.

“We understand that a number of people witnessed both disturbances.

"We’d like to talk to anyone who was in and around Popworld at the time of these incidents who has information. We'd also like to talk to the taxi driver who took him on 101 quoting crime reference 42/38476/19 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
