Auditions for The X Factor set to be held in Colchester tomorrow have been cancelled.

The world famous talent show was due to arrive at Lion Walk Shopping Centre on Saturday.

In January it was announced the audition team would be in town on March 16 between 9am and 5.30pm.

But today it has been confirmed the auditions have been axed.

It is understood auditions across the country have also been postponed at the last moment.

No reason for the decision has been revealed.

The X Factor UK is responsible for discovering famous acts such as Little Mix, One Direction and James Arthur.

It has also produced Essex stars such as Olly Murs and Matt Cardle plus Stevie Richie and Sam Callahan.

The auditions were open to entrants over 16 and budding singers had been told they could either register at Lion Walk or turn up on the day.

It is not known what it means for the show in 2019.

But Simon Cowell told The Sun there would be two versions of The X Factor this year.
