A woman was injured with a "sharp object" after an incident in broad daylight.

Residents reported spotting four police cars and an ambulance travelling towards the Dengie Hundred Sports Centre at around 12pm today to a cordoned off area in Burnham.

The current cause of the injuries is unknown.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We were around 11am this morning, March 12, with reports that a woman had been injured whilst on Park Road, Burnham.

"Officers and paramedics attended and a woman was treated for minor injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp object.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Maldon Police Station on 101 quoting 372 of March 12."

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 11.01 am with reports of a woman who had been injured in Park Road, Burnham.

"We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

"The woman was taken to hospital for further treatment."
