An exhibition housing a collection of contemporary art will be held in Maldon this month.

Hayletts Gallery in the High Street will be showcasing the best of modern British prints.

The pieces in the Modern British and Contemporary Original Prints exhibition will runbe on show until March 30.

It will include work by more than 25 big names, including Essex artist Grayson Perry, David Hockney, Henry Moore, Francis Bacon and Barbara Hepworth.

The prints available will be etchings, monoprints, screenprints, woodcuts, linocuts, lithographs and engravings which the artist has created by hand rather than being reproduction or photographic prints.

A spokesman said: “With each different process it allows the artist to create a different finish to suit their needs, be it delicate lines or large bold shapes.

“The prints are usually limited, numbered and signed by the artist.

“Many processes have gone back generations and are generally time-consuming and complicated techniques.

“It is unbelievable that one can see all of these big-hitting artists’ work under one roof in our beautiful quaint town of Maldon.

“Visitors can choose from a selection of work from abstract compositions to figurative interiors, bright colours to singular line copper engravings. It is not only a great opportunity to own a beautiful artwork by a famous artist to hang in your front room, but also a well-documented area to make a shrewd investment for the future.”

Many of the prints presented are also in the Tate Gallery permanent collection in London.

Gallery owner Sally Patrick added: “We hope as many people come and see the exhibition as possible and we welcome all visitors, even if you are just browsing.”

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Other artists’ work on display are Norman Ackroyd, Craigie Aitchison, Vanessa Bell, John Bellany, Sandra Blow, Edward Burra, Patrick Caulfield, Prunella Clough, Robin Denny, Elizabeth Frink, Terry Frost, Eric Gill, Anthony Gormley, John Hoyland, Bryan Ingham, Henry Moore, Eduardo Paolozzi, Victor Pasmore, Bridget Riley, Michael Rothenstein, Colin Self, Julian Trevelyan and Leon Underwood.
