A new mobile phone app will now allow drivers to pay for parking in car parks across Maldon.

Drivers using all Maldon District Council-owned car parks will be able to pay on the RingGo app on both iPhone and android mobile devices.

Coins are still accepted at all off-street parking machines, including in Promenade Park, Butt Lane, Friary Fields, High Street East and White Horse Lane.

There is a 15p charge each time motorists use the RingGo pay-by-phone service.

Council community services boss Bob Boyce said: “Pay-by-phone is a more convenient option for some people and has already proved popular elsewhere in the country.

“The council is always looking for new and innovative ways to improve parking options and this supports our vision to provide excellent services and value for money.

“We welcome this initiative that makes it even quicker and easier for people using our car parks.”

The app will be launched on Monday.

It can be downloaded for free from Google Play and the App Store.
