DETECTIVES have released images of a man they want to speak to in connection with a violent daylight robbery.

The victim was sat in his parked car in Furtherwick Road, on Canvey, in a car park near the Haystack pub on the afternoon of February 15.

It is believed he was about to go to a nearby bank to deposit a briefcase of money.

But before he could start his car, a man opened the passenger door, jumped in and began threatening him and punching him in the head.

The man then ran off with thousands of pounds in cash contained in the briefcase.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was left shaken by the incident.

After the incident, police released a description of the suspect.

He has been described as being of mixed heritage, aged in his late, 20s, around 5ft 10ins, of a medium build with black hair.

He wore a black leather jacket, jeans and trainers.

Essex Police initially appealed for witnesses, urging people to check their back gardens for evidence, and have now released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection to the robbery.

Det Sgt Christopher Arnold, of Basildon CID, said: “We are treating this as a targeted attack and don’t believe there is any wider risk to the public.

“We have been carrying out enquiries at the scene and we have spoken to residents nearby.

“We would encourage people who live in the area to check their back gardens to see if anything has been disposed.

“We would also urge anyone with information or dash cam footage is to call Basildon CID on 101 quoting incident 668 of 15/02.”
