A TEENAGER has been discharged from hospital after being hit by a bus on his way home from school.

The 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital on yesterday after the crash in North Shoebury Road, Shoebury, shortly after 3pm.

He suffered a serious cut to his head and was rushed to Southend Hospital with what were described as life-changing injuries.

Fortunately, his injuries were not as serious as feared and, after receiving hospital treatment, he has now been discharged.

A family member told the Echo he was conscious, had suffered some broken bones and received stitches to close a wound on his head but it is believed he will make a full recovery.

Shortly after the crash, an Arriva bus was pulled over and cordoned off by Essex Police officers investigation the incident. A driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The 47-year-old man from Southend has been released under investigation. 

Arriva have confirmed a bus belonging to the company was involved in the crash and they are helping police with the investigation.

Essex Police’s road policing unit is appealing for witnesses to the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 691 of 26/02.
