A NIGHTCLUB is set to be converted into an indoor crazy golf centre.

Plans have been submitted by Adventure Leisure for a change of use for Chicago’s on the Festival Leisure Park, Basildon.

Planning documents reveal it’s set to be taken over by Adventure Leisure and turned into a Mr Mulligans.

The plan is for a chain store with two crazy golf courses, a bar and a restaurant.

To fit it all in the plans include a new mezzanine floor.

It is hoped, if permission is granted, the leisure venue will employ 20 people, more than the current nightclub.

The proposed opening times are 10am until midnight every day.

Chicago’s bosses first announced it would close in December, but changed their minds to take advantage of the Christmas and New Year party season and so as not to disappoint their loyal customers.

The bar, described as “a popular destination for clubbers and partygoer’s for over 15 years” has not confirmed a closing date and insisted it was business as usual despite the planning application.

Residents and former community leaders said they are pleased to see new businesses showing interest in the area.

Former Labour councillor, Pat Rackley, 69, from Laindon said: “I think it’s a good thing that it could be replaced.

“We want to encourage more people to come to the leisure park.

“I think this is showing the continued regeneration of the park, as we hae seen lots of business change there.

“I would like to see an indepedent restaurant open there and I think other residents would agree and feel the same.”

A spokesman from Chicago’s Basildon said: “We enjoyed a fantastic Christmas and New Year and it’s business as usual as we continue to give our customers a fun night out.”

The Echo contacted Adventure Leisure for a comment about the opening of Mr Mulligans.

The plan is for two golf courses, each nine holes, as part of an entertainment venue.
