THE Big Santa Team, made up of councillors and volunteers, raised £8,000 for charity.
With Chelmsford City Councillors and volunteers joining forces, the huge amount was raised for Kids Inspire and The Dementia Project.
The team were fundraising at Sainsbury’s in Springfield before Christmas.
Vicky Ford, MP for Chelmsford, was also on hand, chatting to children and their families.
She said: “I am very privileged to represent the people of Chelmsford but today was all about the children and I loved every minute of watching their faces and listening to them relate their Christmas plans to Santa... absolute magic.
“Big Santa with the sleigh and reindeer commanded much attention and the “make a wish desk “ was a popular attraction for the kids.” £4,000 was raised and then matched.
