Police and fire crews were called to a deliberate car fire in a woodland area.
The car was set on fire in Grove Court, Rayleigh.
Fire crews attended at 6.50pm on Friday January 4, the fire was extinguished by 7.28pm and the fire service said it's believed to be a deliberate fire.
Castle Point and Rochford Policing Team posted on Facebook about the incident.
A spokesman said: "The team have been called to a burnt out vehicle in Grove Woods, Rayleigh.
"Luckily the heat melted the front bumper off so the number plate fell to the ground where it was then preserved.
"This enabled us to find the identity of the vehicle.
"Enquiries are in hand to locate the owner.
"If you saw anything suspicious leading up to the fire or subsequently; please call police on 101 quoting incident 1247 04/01/19."
