A CARE home has honoured staff members who have worked there for ten years and residents who have made it 100.

Mundy House in Basildon acknowledged its long serving staff and celebrated the significant birthdays of residents with its first awards ceremony on New Year’s Eve.

The event was held at the home on Church Road and was attended by deputy mayor of Basildon Danny Lawrence.

The care home gave special recognition to Rose Avery, 109, Ivy Aylott, 106, and Nora English, who recently turned 100.

Awards were also given to ten residents’ families, both past and present, who have shown ongoing support to Mundy House throughout the years.

And the 15 long-serving members of staff who have worked for the care home for more than ten years.

The longest period of service belonged to Irene Taylor, who has been with Mundy House for 29 years.

Four residents received awards for showcasing skills and talents, including resident Ian Crouch, who enjoys gardening, Ian Parkinson who makes matchstick models, Elizabeth Louise, who received special recognition for making people laugh and for always staying positive, and Joyce Bristow, who always likes to keep the home and dining area in check.

Manager Josi George said: “We are one big family at Mundy House and it is a very special place to be. I wanted to create an event which would allow us to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our staff, but also recognise our residents and what outstanding people they are.

"They never cease to amaze me, and their families become an extension of our working family, while providing an incredible amount of support. I would like to continue this event, and I would like to thank Deputy Mayor Cllr Danny Lawrence, who was here to celebrate the inaugural awards.”

Mr Lawrence added: “I was overjoyed to attend Mundy House’s first awards ceremony. I think that acknowledging the support of staff, residents and families is fantastic.”
