A CAT found abandoned behind a police station after being hit by a car is looking for a new home.

Betsy was left with a broken pelvis and maggot infested wounds after the incident in Colchester in June.

She was found curled up behind Colchester Police Station, in Southway, clinging onto life.

It is thought she may have been there for 24 to 48 hours before she was discovered.

Attempts to track down her owners proved unsuccessful and Colchester Cat Rescue was called in.

Betsy needed a £3,000 operation to restore her to health and the rescue centre is hoping to fundraise to pay off the bill.

Jo Foxley, manager at the centre, said: “We had a call from the vets back in June saying they had this cat and they couldn’t get hold of its owners.

“It had been involved in a RTC and had been found at the back of a police station just curled up and had maggots on one of its wounds.

“She needed specialist surgery as she had a broken pelvis.

“She had an x-ray at our vets and we then had to take her to Christchurch vets in Ipswich. The operation was about £3,000.”

Betsy is now on the road to recovery and is on the hunt for a new home.

Jo added: “She had to have eight weeks of cage rest and had to go back for x-rays. We have the final check up on December 15 and hopefully she will be signed off.

“It was a long time to be stuck in a cage for her and she had muscle weakness. We had to build up her leg muscles.

“She is only two years old – she is a young cat – and we thought she deserved a chance to live out her life.”

“She is doing really well and now she is looking for a lovely new home.”

Betsy would be happy living with older children, in a quiet area away from busy roads.
