THE family of a man who died from a single stab wound in a Basildon park will never know what happened to him.

Senior Essex Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded an open verdict following his death after Essex Police determined his death was not suspicious following a murder investigation.

Aydin Eldeniz was found by dog walkers at around 5.20pm on December 18 last year, in Northlands Park, Basildon.

Despite the best efforts of passers-by to give him CPR, the 28-year-old was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

An inquest into his death was held at Chelmsford Coroner’s Court on Monday but Mrs Beasley-Murray determined there was not enough evidence to make a definitive determination, such as accident, suicide or unlawful killing, and instead recorded an open verdict.

After his death, Essex Police initially launched a murder investigation after it was discovered Mr Eldeniz died from a stab wound to the chest and a 6-inch knife was found nearby.

A post-mortem examination was carried out and pathologists determined Mr Eldeniz died from thw wound to his heart but were unable to determine whether this was self-inflicted or was caused by a third party.

Essex Police carried out extensive investigations into Mr Eldeniz’s death over a matter of weeks before determining the death was not suspicious.

This included analysing CCTV and his movements as well as his internet search history which showed he had researched the location of the heart.

The closure of the murder investigation came as a great disappointment and frustration to his family who do not believe he harmed himself.

Speaking to the Echo previously his sister, Ayla Kaygusuz, said the family were desperate for answers.

She added: “He was making plans for the future. He wanted to book a holiday for the summer and told me he wanted to teach my son how to drive when he grew up.

“Aydin was not suicidal. We are desperately seeking justice for what happened.”

Ms Kaygusuz made lengthy submissions to the coroner at the inquest before an open verdict was decided.
