A PUB which shut down suddenly has re-opened and its new landlords are hoping to turn its fortunes around.

Business duo Charlie Patrick and Wendy Rudd have secured a five-year tenancy in the Hospital Arms pub, in Crouch Street, Colchester.

The Adnams-owned pub closed suddenly in August and fears had been raised over its future.

But Mr Patrick and Miss Rudd stepped in and have vowed to make the pub a success.

Miss Rudd said: "We've been in a while now and things are starting to get better; we're starting to see more people come through the door."

As well as giving the pub decor an update, the pair are also giving the kitchen an overhaul and hope to begin serving food next month.

Miss Rudd added: "We also have eight ale lines in the bar, so there is a good selection for people and we will also have a new gin bar in the back bar, which we felt was a bit of a wasted space.

"With it being winter now, we've also got a log fire on so we're getting the place as snug as possible for our customers."
