Councillor Tim Young claims there is a "small section of public opinion" which is opposed to the published plans for the Cultural Quarter.
I would like to know on what evidence he bases this claim.
As far as I can see there is a wide range of people, some experts in the field of town planning, who are opposed to the plans.
Has Mr Young carried out a wide ranging survey, the results of which he is concealing?
This is a unique opportunity to develop an area in the centre of the town for the use of everyone.
Colchester already has one of the best parks in England. This together with an open space where people could, walk, relax, listen to music, watch live theatre or attend an open air market, would make Colchester one of the most attractive towns in East Anglia and would bring many visitors to the town.
Let us not throw away this golden opportunity, which will never return in our time.
It appears there is no need for student accommodation in the town.
The buildings will be converted to luxury accommodation for the rich.
Instead of catering for the needs of the many, only the few will benefit. Plus ça change.
