THE name Winter has by now become pretty well-known on the local music scene, thanks to the singer's sumptuous vocal talents.

When she isn't airing her own contemporary songs armed with her guitar, many will also know the Southend based lass also puts on a superb tribute show to Barbara Streisand.

Such a show is coming up at the Railway Hotel, on Thursday November 23, where Winter, (full name Jillian Winter), which be performing the songs made famous by the Hollywood star, with the piano accompaniment of Simon Campbell.

Jillian says she and the pianist, who also works as her musical director, have developed an intuitive rapport.

Simon added: "Winter has long been an admirer of Streisand in all her guises as singer, actor, director and mould-breaker. It was this that prompted her to put together her Winter Sings Streisand repertoire, pulling together songs from Streisand’s early career in New York clubs, shows, movies, and hit records.

"She puts all this on for the audience, mixed with anecdotes and ad hoc banter, which makes for warm, engaging and entertaining performance.

"What makes this different is it is all about the delivery. The depth, tonality and power of Winter’s voice is something extraordinary. She lays bare her emotions, and the electricity is tangible. Every song she sings comes from deep within."

Streisand broke through when she was still very young, full of energy, a rebel, and impossible to categorise.

Winter brings that same spontaneous vigour to her performance and cuts across all boundaries.
