A SERIES of roadworks costing to the tune of £6m on the A120 and A12 in Essex will begin on Monday 9 January.

The work, which Essex Highways say will provide smoother and safer journeys for drivers, will be carried out in phases across sections of the A12 between Chelmsford and Marks Tey, and the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey.

Parts of the A120 between Colchester and Wix will also be upgraded.

The works will include resurfacing between A120 Marks Farm and Marks Tey and on the A12 J25 exit slip road, repairs or renewing of waterproofing on several bridges, upgrading central reserve safety barriers, and renewing drainage.

Highways England project manager Kelly Milburn said:

“We understand this package of schemes will cause some disruption for drivers and local residents, so we have planned the work carefully and closely with Essex county council, local parishes and other transport services to reduce its impact as much as we can.

“While we are carrying out this essential work, I would urge motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time in case of any delays.”
