A SPECIAL service was held for the opening of a plaque to remember a lost soldier during the Battle of Britain.
The event was held on Sunday October 23 October at the Church of St John, Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.
The plaque is in memory of Sub Lt Blake, a young wartime pilot who died during the Battle of Britain, having crashed in his Spitfire aircraft in New London Road, Chelmsford.
He died on October 29 1940.
The Service of Commemoration, was conducted by the Revd. Canon Carol Smith, in the presence of Sub. Lt. Blake’s nephew Keith Powell, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex and representatives of the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm.
