Thirty per cent of the building is still reported to be alight and the property has partially collapsed.

Crews are using five main jets to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters have been removed from tackling a blaze at a turkey processing plant in Howe Green as the building is set to collapse.

The aerial ladder platform is now being used as a water tower to pour from a height.

Assistant divisional officer Mark Turnball said: "The collapse of the burning building is imminent and crews have been withdrawn from firefighting operations.

"The aerial ladder platform is now in use as a water tower, water is being poured from height to extinguish the fire."

Crews were called to the scene, Kelly Turkeys in Old Southend Road, just off the A130, shortly before 9am this morning.

Upon arrival they reported the building, measuring 50 metres by 40 metres, was 50 per cent alight and 100 per cent smoke logged.

Paul Kelly has reported that no turkeys have died in the fire.

The cause of the blaze in unknown at this stage but the fire service and Essex Police will carry out an investigation.

EIGHT fire crews are tackling a blaze at a farm building in Howe Green.

Crews were called to the scene, in Old Southend Road, just off the A130, shortly before 9am this morning.

Upon arrival they reported the building, measuring 50 metres by 40 metres, was 50 per cent alight and 100 per cent smoke logged.

The building is used as a turkey processing plant and firefighters remain at the scene tackling the blaze, with an update shortly after 10am saying crews are making steady progress but that the building is well alight.

Two crews from Chelmsford, one from each of Great Baddow, Ingatestone, South Woodham Ferrers and Maldon, are all at the scene, as well at the aerial ladder platform from Harlow and an incident command unit.
